Let’s NOT Do It All (especially by 30)

This workshop is the anti-panel. Specifically designed for women, we will learn from each other, because no matter what level you’re at, you have experiences that are worth telling and questions worth asking out loud.

Ever wanted to speak at a conference but felt you weren’t at a high enough level to do it? Ever wanted to sit in a room with a Chief level designer and just ask a bunch of questions without pretense?

More like a round table discussion and less like leader-knows-it-all, this workshop will be broken into 3 sections: discussion/questions on the challenges women face working in the creative field with guidance by Sarah, mini reviews of digital portfolios/resumes either by me or the group (people’s choice), and headshots to update the portfolio or website.

Let’s all hang out, without hierarchy and labels, because we all become great by keeping our ears open wide and our minds open wider. Dudes, of course, are also welcome!

Breaking the Grid

In this workshop we’re going to learn to set type quickly and like a pro with a handful of rad tips. Part discussion and part hands-on you’ll need a copy of InDesign to get the most out of it. We’ll cover several topics like the theory of grids/layout structure, pairing type, personality, readability, really, as much as we can cram in.

Do Good With What You Got

What do people care about? Honestly, is it really how “relatable” you are on social media, or how the latest Doritos commercial is side-splittingly funny? Whelp, guess I’m eating Doritos for the rest of my life. Loyal to the core.

We’re seeing people care more and more about their future and the futures of those around them. We have Millennials and Gen-Z players jumping into the game as powerhouse generations raised on tech that allows them to tailor their every online experience, and aggressive morals that shape their choices every day, religious or not. The brands and people who are doing good things will gain respect and attention. Just look at Tesla. Look at Patagonia. Look at our world. Now look at yourself, and ask what you’ve done to give back lately.

No matter your skill set, it’s time to set the standard to give back. Make life better for those who are less skilled or equipped or privileged than you. We set the tone for the world.

Making a Mark

In this fast paced workshop each designer will concept, sketch and develop a logo based on various information Tad will supply.

The workshop will include several in-depth lectures sharing process and stories about developing brand identity systems for restaurants and the food and beverage industry. Designers will focus on writing, concept development, idea generation, color theory and how to improve executing a final idea.

Each designer is requited to bring: pencil, paper, laptop and super positive vibes. We gonna have fun!

Flex Your Leadership Attributes

How do you become an effective leader when there are many different ways to lead and each of your teammates respond in a unique way?

Learn how to be flexible to meet the needs of others by exploring certain attributes that can be useful in some situations, but detrimental in others. While leading product teams and design thinking workshops at IBM, I’ve found out first-hand how important these soft skills of leadership really are. As leaders, the responsibility and success of the team falls on us. It’s bend or break.

In this workshop, designers will break out into small groups to examine and share different leadership attributes that they struggle with, and then everyone will come together to discuss the top eight attributes of the afternoon in an everybody-stands activity. Come prepared to think introspectively, share with each other, and move around.

You’ll leave with new tips on how to manage specific types of people, and a concrete set of leadership qualities to study up on and bring back to your everyday work.
